What time can I drop off and pick up my child for school?
Campus supervision is only from 7:45 a.m. to 3:45 p.m Monday through Thursday and 7:45 a.m. to 1:45 p.m. on Friday. Students not officially involved in extracurricular programs are the responsibility of their families outside of these school hours. We permit students to arrive on campus any time after 7:45 a.m. unless they are involved in before-school programs. Students are to leave campus at 3:45 p.m. Monday through Thursday and at 1:45 p.m. on Friday unless they are involved in after-school programs.
Can students use cell phones on campus?
We do not allow students to use cell phones on school grounds. This includes all school areas and buses. Students must keep cell phones secured in backpacks and turn them off. Our staff will take away visible or audible cell phones, label them, and turn them into the front office. We will secure phones in the school safe until parents can pick them up.
Can my child leave school early for an appointment?
When you sign students out early from school, it disrupts their entire class and contributes to the overall issue of excessive absences. This results in the loss of state funding to our district. We understand that there may be times when you need to sign your child out early, but please refrain from removing your children from school early unless it is absolutely necessary, especially on block days.
Do you allow visitors on campus?
The Altar Valley School District and the AVMS encourages visitation by parents and other adults. However, we do not allow children to bring friends or relatives to spend the day as a classroom participant. In all cases, visitors should contact the teachers to make advance arrangements for classroom visitations. All visitors must sign in at the office and obtain a visitor’s badge before proceeding on campus.
When does the school issue report cards?
We issue standards-based report cards four times a year at the end of each quarter. Additionally, we issue progress reports at the mid-point of each quarter, about every 4 1/2 weeks. The report cards will document how your child is progressing toward meeting the Arizona State Standards. There is a link to state standards on the district website.
How often do you hold parent-teacher conferences?
Parent-Teacher conferences are the time for the parents to discuss their child’s performance and special needs with the teacher. Altar Valley Middle School hopes that parents will take the opportunity to attend these conferences. Conferences are the time to build a mutual understanding of the child and to further the home/school partnership. While we encourage parents and teachers to initiate a conference any time there appears to be a need, we schedule formal conferences in the fall. Translators are available upon request.
How much does breakfast and lunch cost?
We are pleased to inform you that all children attending Altar Valley School District receive meals at no charge due to implementing a new option available to schools participating in the national school lunch and school breakfast programs called the Community Eligibility Provision (CEP). This is great news for you and your kids! All enrolled students of Altar Valley Middle School are eligible to receive a healthy breakfast and lunch at school for no charge to your household every school day. No further action is required of you. Your child(ren) will be able to participate in these meal programs without having to pay a fee or submit an application.
