Can students use cell phones on campus?

We do not allow students to use cell phones on school grounds. This includes all school areas and buses. Students must keep cell phones secured in backpacks and turn them off. Our staff will take away visible or audible cell phones unless directed by staff to utilize them.

Can my child leave school early for an appointment?

When you sign students out early from school, it disrupts their entire class and contributes to the overall issue of excessive absences. This results in the loss of state funding to our district. We understand that there may be times when you need to sign your child out early, but please refrain from removing your children from school early unless it is absolutely necessary.

Do you allow visitors on campus?

The Altar Valley School District and the AVMS encourages visitation by parents and other adults. However, we do not allow children to bring friends or relatives to spend the day as a classroom participant. In all cases, visitors should contact the teachers/office to make advance arrangements for classroom visitations. All visitors must sign in at the office and obtain a visitor’s badge before proceeding on campus.

When does the school issue report cards?

We issue standards-based report cards four times a year at the end of each quarter. Additionally, we issue progress reports at the mid-point of each quarter, about every 4 1/2 weeks. The report cards will document how your child is progressing toward meeting the Arizona State Standards. There is a link to state standards on the district website.

How often do you hold parent-teacher conferences?

Parent-Teacher conferences are the time for the parents to discuss their child’s performance and special needs with the teacher. Altar Valley Middle School hopes that parents will take the opportunity to attend these conferences. Conferences are the time to build a mutual understanding of the child and to further the home/school partnership. While we encourage parents and teachers to initiate a conference any time there appears to be a need, we schedule formal conferences in the fall. Translators are available upon request.
